Four Great Reasons to Boat on Lake Shasta this Summer

By: Roberto Bell

Through the walls of Shasta Dam was born a reservoir called Lake Shasta. This lake is the third largest in the state of California following Lake Tahoe and Salton Sea. It is over 500 feet deep, making it popular for boating activities like fishing and water sports like skiing.

For a memorable and enjoyable vacation, people from North Carolina and south of Oregon would rent boats from this lake where they can spend their leisure time on a relaxing environment just drifting and cruising around while playing games, read their favorite novels or do fishing. At the same time, they can still enjoy the lovely view of nature around Lake Shasta like the McCloud, Sacramento and Pit Arm.

If you like fishing more than any other water sports, there are lots of things waiting for you at Lake Shasta. As a matter of fact, some fifty thousand fishes are bred annually in the lake by the Department of Fish and Game. So, there is always a guarantee that you can catch a lot of fishes, as many as you can. One of the known fish breeds here is the King Salmon which is 2-12 pounds in weight. However, be aware of the months when to catch this type and other breeds of fishes from this lake. The King Salmon are most often seen between March and September.

The Brown Trout, with 4-10 pounds, can be caught between May and August. The other fish breed like the Rainbow Trout which is 2-8 pounds, can be seen between April and September.
Unfortunately for swimmers, there is no spot for safe swimming at Lake Shasta. Don’t worry though if you can’t have the chance to see the beauty of the lake underwater because the warm, clear water enables you to view the lake beds from you boat. On the other hand, you can still swim with caution anywhere along the 364 miles of the shoreline along the lake, which is better than San Francisco Bay.

Those who are looking for a more exciting adventure and water sport, there is still more you can do at Lake Shasta. You can take the opportunity to see and feel the warm, clean water while skiing and wakeboarding. By the way, ski boat competitions are also held here annually. If you don’t own one, you can rent one around the Lake’s vicinity. You can choose from a wide variety of boats depending on what you want to do, either for fishing, wakeboarding or skiing. A patio boat is a perfect transport that you can rent to spend more relaxing and quality time with your family while cruising on the water. There is also a canoe so you can paddle around the lake while enjoying the view of beautiful rock formations with birds around it. Who knows, you might even spot a bald eagle too.

When it comes to natural beauty and entertainment, Lake Shasta, California definitely has a lot to offer its visitors and tourists. For your next boating trip or water sport adventure, you might want to try visiting this lake and we’re very sure that you won’t be disappointed at the scenes you’ll see. Surely, you’ll have the most memorable vacation and have a great time with all the various activities that you can do here waiting for you.
